Cranky Elbows?

From time to time, it's not uncommon for your elbows to get a little cranky from all of the grip-intensive work that we do. Farmers Carries, Walking Lunges, DB Rows, Pullups, etc. We do a lot of movements that require your grip strength!

Under normal circumstances, these movements will all serve to strengthen those meat hooks. But in some cases, you can experience pain and inflammation, which will require a little TLC.

My preferred method of self-treatment for sore elbows is to use a scraping tool to perform soft tissue work on the forearms and biceps (above and below the elbow). This method has always worked really well for me, so I do it periodically as routine maintenance or any time my elbows are barking at me. Check out my video to see exactly how to do it:

Another method that can help is to spare the grip during exercises in which it is not the primary focus. For example, Walking Lunges should tax your legs more than your grip. Versa Gripps are a tool that can support your grip while performing these exercises so that you can focus on the areas you want to train without overtaxing your grip. I recently purchased a pair of the “Classic Series” to test them out, and I gotta say I really like them for a variety of movements.

To be clear, I DON’T use these for exercises like Farmers Carries where my grip strength is the target. But I DO use them for Pullups to better target my lats, Walking Lunges to focus on my quads, etc.

In the video above, I am using the Sidekick Echo Muscle Scraper. I also show a generic soup spoon that I purchased on Amazon for a few bucks. They both work 😉.
