Core Values

Core Values

These are the values and ideals that shape the culture at our gym. We strive to uphold and embody these values in everything we do from programming to coaching and everything in between.

SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW ATHLETES

  • The SHOP is Community-Driven. We workout as individuals, but we train as a community.
  • Introduce yourself to newcomers and welcome them to the SHOP
  • Encourage everyone before, during, and after workouts
  • Experienced SHOP athletes help set the example for our new athletes. You can always learn something new at the whiteboard, your techniques can always be improved, and a positive attitude is contagious (See “Be Coachable…”)

BE COACHABLE & HAVE A GROWTH MINDSET

  • Coachability means that you are receptive to feedback, you believe that you can always improve, and that you are ready, willing, and able to put in the work
  • Aim for progress, not perfection
  • Rather than saying “I’m just not good at XYZ,” you would say “I need to practice XYZ more!”

EVERY WORKOUT STARTS WITH A THOROUGH WARMUP

  • It is important, for your own safety, to properly and thoroughly warmup prior to the day’s strength or conditioning work
  • If life gets in the way and you’re running a few minutes late, that’s OK! Just show up. But you start with a complete warmup

IMPORTANCE OF MOVEMENT QUALITY

  • Mechanics → Consistency → Intensity
  • Using the proper variation of a movement not only allows you to train as safely as possible, but also maximizes your performance and results
  • Using too much weight or using a variation of a movement that is too advanced will compromise your form. And compromised form will lead to injury

COMMUNICATION OF INJURIES

  • Communicate any/all injuries with your coach
  • An injury shouldn’t stop you from training, but it does require you to work with the coaches to modify appropriately
  • It is essential for your safety and recovery to avoid painful movements and allow the healing process to occur (See “Trust the Process”). Scaling and/or modifying a workout is not only optimal for your recovery, but also for your results
  • While our coaches do an excellent job with movement modifications, we are not medical practitioners. If your pain/injury persists, please see a doctor or physical therapist for a proper evaluation

TRUST THE PROCESS

  • PR’s don’t happen every day, and sustainable results won’t happen overnight
  • Building strength and conditioning takes consistent effort over a long period of time
  • Enjoy the journey rather than focusing on the destination
  • Our coaches are well trained, highly experienced, and they do an outstanding job. It is their job to guide you through the training process
