Family Life

I live in Philomath with my 3 amazing kids: Adelle (13), Ivan (9), and Max (6). Being a mom is the most rewarding and challenging thing I have ever done. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for them. Adelle is a talented artist and musician, Ivan is a whiz on a bicycle, and Max is highly skilled at antagonizing his brother.

Athletic Background

Marching Band, Drum and Bugle Corps, Cuban Salsa, and 4 years of CrossFit! I have never played any “sports” before CrossFit but now consider myself an athlete. I have been powerlifting for 4 years consistently and it is deeply ingrained as a part of my life. If I don’t lift something heavy for more than a week I get really sad. I love the constant challenge and victories of learning new movements. Next challenge is to get a muscle up in the next year!
Fun fact: I make my children do burpees as punishment. I will pull over the car to do it. I’ve even ordered burpees in the principal’s office. Do not mess with me!

Favorite athletic accomplishment:

  • Favorite Athletic Achievement: Hmmm…I estimate that I danced for over 20 hours at last year’s San Francisco Salsa Festival. Does that count?

Rapid Fire Questions:

Favorite Book
365 Tao – I study Taoism and this book keeps my head on straight.

Favorite Movie
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Favorite Food

Favorite Cheat Meal
Rice Krispy treats (must be homemade and have a high ratio of butter/marshmallow to cereal). I hardly ever make them because my kids will just be sad that I ate them all.

Favorite Exercise/Movement
I love snatches, clean & jerks, deadlifts, burpees, box jumps, and handstand push-ups. When I see a workout with those movements I think “YASSSSSS”

Least Favorite Exercise/Movement
Sled push, medball cleans, wall balls, medball slams, rowing, assault bike (I actually feel queasy writing this)

Something Others Might be Surprised to Learn About You
My previous line of work was as a laboratory technologist (3 years) and as a Laboratory IT analyst (5 years). I don’t know why I thought it would be a good idea for an extrovert to work in a cubicle with a bunch of nerdy computer introverts. I was quite good at it but I often got distracted by talking to people.
I also love to sing, dance, and play piano. In another life I would have been a music artist as a career. Maybe it’s not too late!

Famous Last Words:

“More burpees!”
