It’s that time of year again…time for the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games season! And, of course, that season begins with the online Open. A number of you have asked me about signing up. Anyone can sign up to compete in 5 workouts over 5 weeks and post their scores online. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people from across the world compete in the Open! In 2017 alone, there were more than 380,000 participants! That’s just incredible. I’m already registered, and here’s why you should too…
Perhaps the greatest aspect of CrossFit is the community. People from all walks of life, in various places within their lives, working hard together to achieve a common goal (becoming more BADASS!). Your reasons for competing can be as varied as the workouts themselves. In other words, you might want to see how you stack up against the rest of the world. Or perhaps you just wanna compete against some of your friends who are also signed up…after all, a little friendly competition is good for ya! Lastly, and most importantly, you can just compete against yourself. Where you stand on the leaderboard makes absolutely no difference, but competition brings out the best in us and it will push you to new heights.
So whether you want to compete or not, for 5 weeks we can all get together on Friday nights to hang out, cheer each other on, and then enjoy some delicious food and drinks afterwards to celebrate all of our accomplishments.
Each workout will be released by CrossFit HQ on Thursday at 5pm PT and must be completed (and score submitted) by the following Monday at 5pm PT. Every class will complete the Open workout the day after the announcement. Don’t worry though, just as every other SHOP workout can be modified for individual needs, so too can the Open workouts. Then instead of the normal 5:30pm class, each athlete that is competing will get a chance to complete the Open workout with a judge to verify their score. And there’s plenty of room for spectators!
Following the workout, we can all go to one of our favorite spots (Cloud & Kelly’s for double lamb burgers, Laughing Planet for bowls and burritos, Sky High for burgers and tacos) to wind down after a tough workout and kick off the weekend with some good friends. And drinks.
We will complete each Open workout on Friday (the day after it is released). So for the SHOP’s schedule, it is as follows:
- Workout 18.1 – February 23rd
- Workout 18.2 – March 2nd
- Workout 18.3 – March 9th
- Workout 18.4 – March 16th
- Workout 18.5 – March 23rd
Leading up to the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Open, we will complete a number of previous year’s Open workouts (we’ve already done quite a few of them). This will give you a taste of what’s to come later…
